US accuses Chinese firms of aiding Pakistan’s missile program, imposes sanctions

Washington: The US State Department has imposed sanctions on Chinese research institutes and several companies, accusing them of providing materials for Pakistan’s nuclear missile program.

According to a Reuters report, State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller stated that the Beijing Research Institute of Automation for Machine Building Industry had been involved in testing rocket motors for Pakistan’s Shaheen-3 and Ababeel missile systems, and possibly for larger systems as well.

He mentioned that the sanctions affect Chinese companies such as Hubei Huachengda Intelligent Equipment Company, Universal Enterprises, and Xi’an Longde Technology Development Company, as well as Pakistan-based Innovative Equipment and a Chinese national.

The US State Department has accused these companies and individuals of transferring missile technology equipment despite existing sanctions.

Matthew Miller said that today’s sanctions demonstrate that the US will continue to take action against nuclear proliferation and any activities related to the transfer of such materials.

The US had previously imposed sanctions in October 2023 on three Chinese companies for allegedly supplying materials for Pakistan’s mis

sile program.
