Ukraine demands Belarus withdraw troops from border

Kyiv: Ukraine has demanded that Belarus withdraw its troops deployed on their shared border.

Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has warned Belarus not to make disastrous mistakes under pressure from Moscow.

In a statement issued by Belarus’s Ministry of Defense, Belarusian armed forces were urged to cease unfriendly actions and withdraw their soldiers from the border.

The Ministry stated that Belarusian Special Forces and former Wagner mercenaries were among the troops stationed at the border.

Their equipment included tanks, artillery, air defense systems, and engineering gear, located in the Gomel region near Ukraine’s northern border.

The statement emphasized that Ukraine has never taken, and will not take, any unfriendly steps against the people of Belarus.

Notably, on August 18, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko claimed that Ukraine had stationed more than 120,000 soldiers at the Belarusian border.
