London: The UK will send 650 new missile systems to Ukraine to enhance its air defense.
The British government announced that the first shipment of the “Lightweight Multi-Role Missile” (LMM) system, developed by the French defense group Thales, will be dispatched by the end of this year.
British Defense Minister John Hailey will officially announce the £162 million ($213 million) package at a meeting of Ukraine’s Western allies in Germany today.
In a statement, Hailey said that this new commitment will provide a significant boost to Ukraine’s air defense and reflects the new government’s determination to increase support for Ukraine.
He noted that recent days have shown the tragic cost of Russia’s indiscriminate attacks on Poltava and Lviv. These British-made missiles will assist Ukraine in defending its people, infrastructure, and territory.
Hailey confirmed that, according to the British Ministry of Defense, artillery ammunition worth £300 million will also start arriving in Ukraine within a few months.
