Karachi: Due to the deep depression over the Rann of Kutch and the potential storm in the northeastern Arabian Sea, the meteorological department has issued a tropical cyclone alert.
According to the meteorological department, the deep depression (DD, a very strong low-pressure area) over the Rann of Kutch, India, has been slowly moving westward and southwestward over the past 12 hours and is now approximately 270 kilometers southeast of Karachi.
The system is expected to continue moving west and southwest and may reach the northeastern Arabian Sea along the Sindh coast by late tonight or early tomorrow morning.
Due to favorable environmental conditions, sea surface temperature, and upper-level divergence, there is a possibility that the system may intensify into a cyclone by tomorrow.
**Tropical Cyclone**
The cyclone is initially expected to move west and southwest, affecting Karachi Division, Tharparkar, Badin, Thatta, Sajawal, Hyderabad, Tando Muhammad Khan, Tando Allahyar, Matiari, Umerkot, Mirpurkhas, Sanghar, Jamshoro, and Dadu with heavy rains accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning until August 31.
Winds with speeds of around 50 to 60 kilometers per hour may make the sea rough and very uneven. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea until August 31.
The meteorological department is monitoring the cyclone warning center and the Karachi system, and relevant authorities are requested to stay informed through the department’s advisories.
If a storm forms in the Arabian Sea, it will be named “Asna,” as suggested by Pakistan, with “Asna” meaning “higher.”
