The Sessions Court in Lahore has declared three suspects in the Maaira murder case as proclaimed offenders and has ordered that the case file be sent to the record room.
Additional Sessions Judge Shabir Akhtar Raja conducted the hearing.
The court issued orders for the suspects’ non-bailable arrest warrants and declared them proclaimed offenders since they have deliberately gone into hiding.
The suspects, Tahir Judoon, Zahir Judoon, and Muhammad Waseem, have been declared proclaimed offenders.
Statements from the victim’s father, Muhammad Zulfiqar, and mother, Shabana Tabassum, were submitted. The victim’s family resides in the UK, and they sent a verified affidavit through the embassy.
The victim’s family also confirmed via a WhatsApp video call. The victim was unmarried, and her only family members are her father and mother.
The court has requested an affidavit of settlement from the suspect’s lawyer
It is noted that on May 3, in Lahore’s Defence area, 26-year-old British-Pakistani Maaira Zulfiqar was found dead at her home.
The police registered a case against four individuals, including two nominated suspects, at Defence B Police Station on suspicion of murder.
Subsequently, Zahir Judoon, one of the accused in the Maaira murder case, confessed to the crime while in police custody.
In his confession, he stated that Maaira was intoxicated, leading to an argument, and he killed her on the morning of May 3. Iqra was aware of this. Zahir Judoon had been a long-time friend of the victim, Maaira.
