Former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh has started expressing concerns about the Indian team’s upcoming visit to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy.
According to Indian media, Harbhajan Singh has supported the Indian board’s decision to seek government approval before confirming the team’s participation in the tournament and traveling to Pakistan.
When asked by Indian media about the Indian team’s trip to Pakistan, Harbhajan Singh questioned, “Can someone tell me why should the Indian team go to Pakistan?”
He further expressed concerns about safety, saying, “There are security concerns in Pakistan. The situation there is such that incidents and crimes occur almost daily.”
Harbhajan added, “I do not think it is safe for the Indian team to go there, and the BCCI’s stance is entirely correct. Nothing is more important than the safety of our players. I support the board’s position.”
The Indian cricket board has avoided commenting on the matter, stating that the government will decide on the team’s travel to Pakistan.
The ICC Champions Trophy is scheduled to be held in Pakistan in February 2025.
