Teachers’ strike over unpaid dues continues at Urdu University

Karachi: A standoff continues between the administration and employees (teaching and non-teaching) at the Federal Urdu University over the non-payment of dues and the withholding of the house ceiling allowance, leading the teachers to boycott the academic process.

Last week, the administration of the Federal Urdu University issued a letter regarding house rent instead of house ceiling, and now a new letter has been issued, stating that house ceiling payments will be conditional upon site visits, inspections, and verification of employees’ homes.

Another letter issued by the university administration warned employees that if they are not present in their respective departments during office hours, deductions will be made from their salaries. This letter was issued in light of the ongoing strike by employees.

It is noteworthy that the Vice Chancellor of the Federal Urdu University has only completed six months in office, but his actions have sparked a boycott of teaching and administrative activities, directly affecting the education of thousands of students.

There is a deadlock in the negotiations between the administration and the teaching and non-teaching staff regarding the issues.

In a letter issued on Wednesday regarding the house ceiling allowance, it was stated that, with the approval of the Vice Chancellor and the recommendations of the Senior Management Committee, the office order will be corrected, and house ceiling will be issued only after site visits and verification.
