Sydney: According to a new study by the Australian National University, the specific structure of a person’s kneecap can indicate the risk of developing osteoarthritis.
Lead author of the study, Associate Professor Laura Wilson, explained that the shape of the kneecap can be used to predict the risk of osteoarthritis.
She also noted that women who suffer from osteoarthritis often experience more severe symptoms compared to men, although the reason for this is not clear.
It is known that certain characteristics of the femur, which is part of the knee joint, differ in shape between men and women.
Osteoarthritis is the most common joint disease, causing pain, stiffness, and swelling in the joints.
Laura Wilson stated that the aim of the research was to identify the structure of the kneecap in individuals with osteoarthritis as a major factor contributing to their pain.
