Spain: 26,000-Year-old footprints discovered during construction work

Madrid: A housing development project worth one billion euros in Spain has uncovered 26,000-year-old footprints of humans and animals, along with stone samples, leading to its designation as a cultural heritage site.

Construction work has been halted following the discovery of these ancient footprints.

Archaeologists have started excavating the site to uncover more artifacts from the distant past.

The excavation team includes 30 individuals, comprising geologists, technical experts, biologists, and restorers.

Juan Sangüenes, one of the project’s researchers, stated in a press release that archaeologists plan to request the Madrid City Council to preserve the site as an archaeological reserve for further investigation.
