Karachi: The Sindh government has expressed concerns over the removal of the Mohenjo-Daro image from currency notes and has sent a letter to the Governor of the State Bank regarding the issue.
The letter, written by Provincial Minister for Culture and Tourism Syed Zulfiqar Ali Shah, addresses the removal of the Mohenjo-Daro image from currency notes and requests the State Bank to review its decision.
The letter states that the Mohenjo-Daro image was featured on the 10-rupee note in 1970, and later, on the 20-rupee note.
Media reports indicate that the Mohenjo-Daro image has now been replaced with an image of Bab-e-Khyber on the 20-rupee note.
The letter further emphasizes that Mohenjo-Daro is not only historically significant but also a UNESCO World Heritage Site, representing a high and illustrious civilization.
It is one of the world’s oldest urban settlements and a legacy of a 5,000-year-old historical civilization.
The presence of Mohenjo-Daro on our currency notes is a matter of pride.
The letter concludes by stating that neglecting this magnificent culture of Sindh and Pakistan on new currency notes would be inappropriate.
It is hoped that due consideration will be given to the global significance and ancient heritage of Mohenjo-Daro.
