Shoaib Malik has opposed any form of surgery for the Pakistan cricket team, stating that surgery should only be considered when there is something substantial to work with.
According to him, the current team has no significant issues, and these are the best players available; making changes would not be beneficial.
In an exclusive interview with Cricket Pakistan’s website (www.cricketpakistan.com.pk) from Germany, Malik said that removing 2 or 3 individuals from the team is not a solution to the problems.
He emphasized that when a new player is brought in, they should be given sufficient time to prove themselves, which will lead to improvements.
He further stated that if someone has potential but lacks understanding of their role or the ability to change overnight, they cannot bring significant improvements to national cricket.
Anyone who takes on a post should be given a long-term chance to show results, and adopting this strategy will lead to positive outcomes.
Malik also expressed that having Gary Kirsten as the white-ball head coach and Jason Gillespie handling test responsibilities is beneficial for Pakistani cricket.
Regarding the non-issuance of NOCs for senior players to participate in leagues, Malik supported this decision, stating that national interests should be the priority.
However, he also stressed that players should not suffer financial losses due to this policy.
Malik advised Babar Azam to focus on playing for the national team and suggested that leadership in white-ball formats should be given to Fakhar Zaman.
He indicated a lack of interest in representing the national team in the future.
Malik also stated that the Indian cricket team should visit Pakistan for the Champions Trophy.
