Sher Afzal Marwat’s membership revoked; PTI leadership faces factionalism

Islamabad: The revocation of Shir Afzal Marwat’s party membership has exposed factionalism within the PTI leadership.

Sources indicate that disagreements within the PTI leadership have surfaced regarding the revocation of Shir Afzal Marwat’s basic party membership.

PTI’s acting Secretary Information, Shoaib Shaheen, has confirmed Marwat’s expulsion from the party.

Shoaib Shaheen stated that Marwat was expelled on the instructions of the party’s founder chairman, while PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar has defended Marwat, stating that Marwat is one of Imran Khan’s most loyal associates.

He claimed he was unaware of any notification regarding Marwat’s membership revocation.

Barrister Gohar stated that as party chairman, he would not expel Marwat or anyone else from the party.

Meanwhile, sources suggest that Barrister Gohar may visit Adiala Jail to meet the founder chairman regarding Marwat’s case.

It is noteworthy that PTI has revoked the basic party membership of its former senior vice president and National Assembly member Shir Afzal Marwat, demanding his resignation from the National Assembly as well.

PTI’s Additional General Secretary, Firdous Shamim Naqvi, issued a notification stating that Marwat’s membership was revoked due to serious violations.

The notification mentioned that Marwat was issued a show-cause notice for not adhering to party policies and that a committee was formed to monitor his tweets and media statements.

According to the notification, the committee concluded that Marwat showed disregard for party rules and considered himself above the party, which distorted the party’s image and narrative.

On the other hand, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar, while speaking to Express News, denied the authenticity of the notification, calling it fake and stating he would have been informed if it were true, as he is the party chairman.

Meanwhile, Shir Afzal Marwat has also issued a statement following the revocation of his basic membership. On the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), he stated, “I respect the party’s decision, but let me be clear, I was and will remain a soldier of Khan. I will do whatever I can to help in the leader’s release.”

He added, “I believe there has been misinformation about me in the leader’s ears, creating misunderstandings. I will try to meet with the leader to present my position.”
