Sharia appellate bench issues first ruling in 4 years: Death sentence converted to life imprisonment

Islamabad: The Sharia Appellate Bench has converted a death sentence to life imprisonment after four years of hearing the case.

Under the chairmanship of Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa, the five-member Supreme Court Sharia Appellate Bench changed the death sentence to life imprisonment in its first ruling after four years.

The court ordered the release of the convicted murderer, Taj Muhammad, who was convicted of killing his own lawyer.

The court noted that the convict has already served 20 years of his sentence and directed his release if he is not involved in any other cases.

Additional Advocate General KP, Nooruz Khan, mentioned that the murdered lawyer was his classmate.

Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa questioned why he brought up this personal connection in court, suggesting it might be an attempt to influence the court.

The Advocate’s statement about his friend being the victim was deemed unnecessary.

Chief Justice Faez Isa remarked on the importance of understanding why the client killed his own lawyer.

The government lawyer responded that the convict was a habitual criminal who killed his lawyer for money.

The Chief Justice highlighted that it is unusual for someone to kill their favorite person, their own lawyer.

Taj Muhammad, from Peshawar’s Mard area, was arrested in 2002 on charges of murder.
