Scientists uncover mystery of ‘Screaming Mummy’ after a century

Cairo: Nearly a century later, scientists have finally unraveled the terrifying mystery of an ancient Egyptian mummy that died screaming.

The remains of this mummy, dubbed the ‘Screaming Woman,’ were discovered in 1935 inside the tomb of a royal architect’s family in Egypt.

What set her apart from other mummies was the presence of all her organs, which are typically removed after death in the mummification process.

This aspect was quite puzzling for scientists. Initially, it was thought that the open mouth was a result of negligence during the mummification process.

However, a new scientific analysis has provided a different answer.

According to Sahar Saleem, a researcher at Cairo University, it is a case of cadaveric spasm, an unusual form of muscle stiffening that occurs in cases of violent or highly stressful death. This means she died screaming in agony.
