Islamabad: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has filed a review petition against the Supreme Court’s decision requiring consultation between two constitutional officers for forming an election tribunal in Punjab.
In the petition, PTI argues that the Supreme Court’s July 4 order did not provide grounds for suspending the Lahore High Court’s decision.
The court’s decision also did not suspend the Lahore High Court Chief Justice’s April 4 appointments to the election tribunal.
The petition states that the Chief Justice of Lahore High Court has the authority to appoint judges to the election tribunal, and the Election Commission has no role in these appointments.
PTI requests that the Supreme Court review its decision to suspend the formation of the election tribunal.
It is noted that the Supreme Court has directed the Chief Justice of Lahore High Court and the Chief Election Commissioner to hold face-to-face consultations regarding the formation of the election tribunal.
