The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has firmly opposed the recent appointment of ad hoc judges to the Supreme Court.PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar criticized the appointments, labeling them as driven by malicious intent.
He announced that the matter would be escalated to the Supreme Judicial Council, suggesting that the aim behind these appointments is to induct judges who align with certain interests.
He urged that the judiciary should avoid turning this issue into a controversy, highlighting the unusual timing of bringing in four judges during the court’s holiday period.
In a related statement, PTI leader Umar Ayub condemned the actions against their party members, alleging that they were being targeted with false charges and detentions by various agencies.
He specifically mentioned the cases against Imran Khan, Bushra Bibi, and other party affiliates, decrying them as baseless. He noted that despite a bail order for Bushra Bibi, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) had re-arrested her on what he called fabricated charges.
Ayub further requested Justice Qazi Faez Isa to ensure that these newly appointed ad hoc judges do not preside over PTI’s cases, asserting their unquestionable patriotism.
Senator Shibli Faraz added to the criticism, stating that the governance over the past two years has been mishandled, with the ruling authorities struggling to sway public opinion in their favor.
He warned that any attempts to ban PTI would be a grave mistake, accusing the government of trampling on the constitution and the rule of law.
PTI leader Asad Qaiser echoed these sentiments, lamenting the current state of the country as one of chaos and lawlessness, where force and intimidation are being employed to suppress dissent.
