Lahore’s industrialists and traders have taken to the streets against high electricity costs, announcing the closure of factories and handing over the keys to the government.
An emergency meeting of industrialists and traders was held at the Lahore Chamber of Commerce against IPPs’ capacity charges and expensive electricity, where they demanded a forensic audit of the IPPs.
Leaders of the Quaid-e-Azam Industrial Estate Association, Adeel Bhutta and Mian Khurram Ilyas, stated that they cannot continue their businesses due to the high cost of electricity and will shut down their factories, handing over the keys to the government.
The industrialists unanimously demanded that the agreements with IPPs be reviewed to get relief from the high electricity costs.
