The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced three new Champions Tournaments for the 2024-25 domestic cricket season.
The three formats of the Champions Tournaments will be the Champions Cup One-Day, Champions Cup T20, and Champions First-Class Cup.
PCB Chairman, Mohsin Naqvi, stated that the purpose of these tournaments is to bring our cricket up to international standards, as there is a significant gap between domestic and international cricket. Therefore, the domestic Champions Cup will be held annually.
Mohsin Naqvi added that our current ranking does not reflect Pakistan’s true potential, and there is a need to restore our actual standing. He expressed optimism about the future of Pakistan cricket.
He mentioned that five teams will participate in the Champions Cup, including international players. All three formats—Champions Cup One-Day, Champions Cup T20, and Champions First-Class Cup—will be held.
Naqvi also noted that there will be an increase in the number of first-class and other matches in the new domestic season.
Additionally, domestic players’ salaries and match fees have been raised. For instance, Category One players will now receive 550,000 rupees, compared to 300,000 rupees last season.
The new season will commence on September 1 with the Champions Cup One-Day Tournament.
