Washington: Recently, researchers have suggested that the outer boundary of our Milky Way galaxy is expanding far into the vastness of space and is now touching its neighboring galaxy, Andromeda.
In a detailed article published in the journal Nature Astronomy, an international team of scientists has proposed a new definition for the boundary between interstellar space and the “Circumgalactic Medium (CGM).” The CGM consists of clouds of gas that surround galaxies.
Until now, this bubble of gases has been a subject of great interest for scientists, prompting them to study it by analyzing the light absorbed from celestial phenomena such as quasars.
Previous observations from the Hubble Telescope predicted that the Milky Way galaxy would collide with Andromeda in four billion years.
However, the latest data indicates that the collision has technically already begun.
