Oil tanker found after Malaysian collision

Pedra Branca: Authorities have located the oil tanker that fled after colliding with a ship in Malaysian waters.

The Coast Guard reported that they have tracked down and detained the oil tanker named Sirius One, which was sailing under the flag of São Tomé and Príncipe, along with two tugboats that were towing the ship from the country’s eastern coast.

The collision occurred on Friday when the Sirius One struck the Singapore-flagged Hafnia Nile, resulting in fires on both vessels.

Authorities in Singapore have confirmed that all crew members from both ships were rescued.

According to the Malaysian Coast Guard, the Sirius One oil tanker fled the scene immediately after the collision, which caused the fire to intensify and left at least two crew members injured.

The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore reported that the incident happened approximately 55 kilometers northeast of Pedra Branca island.

Malaysian Coast Guard search and rescue team leader Zain Azmat Mohamed Yunos did not clarify why the São Tomé and Príncipe-flagged tanker attempted to flee but stated that further investigations will be conducted.
