Noida Test: First match of 21st century to end without ball bowled

The final day of the only Test match between Afghanistan and New Zealand was also lost to rain.

The scheduled Test match between Afghanistan and New Zealand in Noida, India, had to be abandoned due to poor arrangements and a wet outfield.

The first day of the Test, scheduled for September 9, was canceled due to the wet outfield following light rain.

The second day also saw the outfield drying efforts thwarted.

Heavy rain on the third day ruined the ground staff’s efforts and led to the match being called off.

The fourth day saw no improvement; water continued to pool on the ground, deepening the pitches and raising concerns about player injuries, leading to the cancellation of the match.

Out of 2,548 Test matches played so far, only seven have ended without a single ball being bowled, with all such incidents occurring in 1890, 1938, 1970, 1989, and 1998. This was the first match of the 21st century to end without any balls bowled.

Fans have criticized the BCCI, saying that they provided the Afghan team with a ground lacking any facilities for the match.
