New data obtained by astronomers has revealed that Mars, the fourth planet in the solar system, is constantly subjected to asteroid collisions.
According to the new research, the planet experiences collisions with asteroids almost daily, a frequency ten times higher than previously reported.
This new research was conducted using data obtained from NASA’s InSight mission.
The mission aims to observe Martian geological activities to develop a better understanding of the planet.
The data revealed that approximately 280 to 360 asteroids collide with Mars annually, creating craters up to eight meters in diameter and causing the planet’s surface to shake.
This research could help us understand the processes of change on Mars and other planets over time.
It may potentially prove our current knowledge incorrect, as it relies on craters that may be more common than previously thought.
