Nadia Khan defends controversial web series ‘Barzakh’

Karachi: Renowned Pakistani host and actress Nadia Khan has declared the controversial web series “Barzakh” as her favorite series.

The web series “Barzakh”, directed by Pakistani director Asim Abbasi for the Indian streaming platform ZEE5, has faced severe criticism on social media since the airing of its third episode.

Pakistani fans and several showbiz personalities have called for a ban on the series.

Fans have demanded a boycott of the series’ mega stars, Fawad Khan and Sanam Saeed, alleging that “Barzakh” violates Islamic principles.

Recently, Nadia Khan expressed her views on “Barzakh” as a guest analyst on a private TV channel show.

She stated that Pakistani audiences are rejecting “Barzakh” because it deviates from the traditional drama genres they are accustomed to.

Khan mentioned that those who prefer dramas centered around mother-in-law versus daughter-in-law conflicts, weddings, and family disputes should avoid this series as it may not appeal to them.

The actress highlighted that Pakistani directors and writers have succeeded in creating such a project for the first time. Previous attempts at suspenseful dramas or films have not achieved similar success.

She praised the series for its excellent dialogues, storyline, and cinematography, and noted that the return of Fawad Khan and Sanam Saeed on screen after a long time has compelled her to watch “Barzakh”.

In conclusion, Nadia Khan acknowledged both the positives and negatives of the series, ultimately declaring “Barzakh” as her favorite.

It is worth noting that the series features themes of homosexuality, obscenity, adultery, and mental conditioning of children, which has led to calls for a ban.
