Beijing: Continuous rain and flooding have caused widespread devastation in China’s central Hunan province.
According to international news agencies, a large mass of mud from a landslide fell on a guesthouse in a mountainous area, burying 18 people.
The rescue team leader reported that 11 bodies have been recovered during the rescue operations, while one person remains missing. Among the deceased and injured are women and children.
Six people have been rescued from the rubble in serious condition and have been transported to the hospital, with two of them in critical condition. The death toll is expected to rise.
In this monsoon season, the number of fatalities due to rains and flooding in China has approached 100. In May, continuous rainfall near a highway caused a building collapse, killing 48 people.
China is experiencing unexpected and heavier-than-usual rainfall due to climate change, leading to increased flooding and resulting in significant human and financial losses.
