Minister of State says all social media platforms are accessible, firewall control is myth

Islamabad: Minister of State for IT, Shiza Fatima Khawaja, stated that all social media platforms remain accessible and controlling them via firewalls is nothing more than a misconception.

Speaking with journalists at the Parliament House, Shiza Fatima Khawaja mentioned that controlling social media content through firewalls is just a myth.

She criticized the unnecessary controversies being created, asserting that all social media platforms are open.

She added that X (formerly Twitter) must adhere to Pakistani laws just like other social media platforms. If the government intended to restrict speech, it would have blocked platforms like TikTok and Facebook instead of X.

The issue lies with X’s failure to comply with Pakistani regulations, whereas TikTok follows 95% of local laws.

The Minister of State also noted that Facebook complies with local regulations, and X is expected to do the same.

She avoided providing a clear answer regarding the installation of firewalls during her conversation with the journalists.
