Mayor Karachi: We won’t need to look to Federal and Sindh governments if citizens support us

Karachi: Mayor Karachi, Barrister Murtaza Wahab, has urged citizens to pay both federal and local taxes, stating that with their support, there will be no need to look towards the federal or Sindh governments.

Presiding over a high-level meeting at the KMC Head Office, Barrister Murtaza Wahab highlighted that citizens owe the Water Board 52 billion rupees, which should be paid to improve water supply and drainage systems.

He emphasized that local government bodies are working with full energy and dedication within the available resources.

He noted that there is a lack of interest in paying taxes to the KMC, despite the services provided such as the fire brigade, cleaning of stormwater drains, and other municipal works.

Yet, citizens do not pay the MUCT (Municipal Utility Charges Tax) bills.

Mayor Karachi stated that all major and minor pumps for draining rainwater from KMC-administered roads are available.

He remarked that critics will continue to criticize, but they are working with a positive mindset.

Murtaza Wahab pointed out that in the past, major roads used to flood with rainwater, and chairmen from various towns affiliated with Jamaat-e-Islami are in constant contact.

He acknowledged that there are some issues within the city, causing delays in rainwater drainage.

He assured that, according to meteorological predictions, all preparations for rainwater drainage are complete, and they are striving to minimize inconvenience to citizens.

Although not all problems have been solved, they aim to overcome these challenges with citizens’ cooperation.

He concluded by saying he does not believe in criticizing others and that serving the public is their duty, which they are fulfilling.

In the past, rainwater used to enter the birthplace of the founder of Pakistan, Wazir Mansion, but work has been done there, and now such flooding does not occur.

The road passing in front of Wazir Mansion no longer accumulates rainwater either.
