Lahore: Renowned Pakistani drama writer Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar has supported fashion designer Maria B’s action against the controversial web series ‘Barzakh’.
In a recent interview, Khalil-ur-Rehman praised Maria B for her stance against homosexuality, stating that she has consistently raised her voice against it and he stands with her in this cause.
The dramatist acknowledged Maria B as a genuine woman making significant efforts to protect the religious and social structure of society.
He lauded her actions against ‘Barzakh’, describing them as commendable and expressing his respect for her.
He criticized series or films promoting homosexuality, suggesting that they serve a specific agenda and urging for awareness and welfare work for the LGBTQ+ community instead of falling prey to this Western agenda.
Khalil-ur-Rehman expressed sympathy for actors, writers, and filmmakers who are used as tools to promote homosexuality, and affirmed his support for Maria B’s opposition to such agendas.
Reacting to Maria B’s claim that 80% of men in the media industry are homosexual, Khalil-ur-Rehman stated that he believes her facts are likely accurate.
It is noted that ‘Barzakh’, a web series written and directed by Pakistani director Asim Abbasi, depicted homosexuality, obscenity, adultery, and child indoctrination, leading many fans and celebrities in Pakistan to demand a ban on it.
Maria B had also filed a petition with the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to ban ‘Barzakh’, but the series was deleted from YouTube by the producers of Indian channel Zindagi before PTA could take action.
