Karachi: According to a spokesperson from K-Electric, the power utility, in collaboration with law enforcement agencies, continues its crackdown on electricity thieves.
Recently, K-Electric conducted operations in Surjani Town and Korangi Industrial Area, removing 750 illegal connections (locally known as “kundas”) weighing over 650 kilograms.
In another operation in North Karachi, 50 illegal connections weighing more than 100 kilograms were removed from K-Electric’s infrastructure.
These connections were responsible for the theft of approximately 10,000 units of electricity daily, amounting to around 300,000 units per month.
Illegal connections bypass the network’s safety protocols, increasing risks to K-Electric’s infrastructure and public safety, especially during the monsoon season.
K-Electric runs campaigns to reduce losses and protect its infrastructure.
Electricity theft and non-payment of bills are two key factors that determine the loss profile of any area.
Currently, 70 percent of K-Electric’s network is exempt from load shedding, while efforts are ongoing to reduce losses in other areas.
The company appeals to customers, elected representatives, and community leaders to promote the timely payment of bills and discourage electricity theft.
Such measures are crucial for ensuring the uninterrupted supply of electricity in the city.
