Karachi: Juggun Kazim, a well-known host and actress in Pakistan’s entertainment industry, has shared her painful experience of domestic violence inflicted by her former husband.
In a recent podcast interview, Kazim opened up about her traumatic past, revealing that she faced violence early in her first marriage.
She described how the marriage, which she had kept secret from her parents and considered a love match, quickly turned abusive.
Kazim explained that violence in such relationships often begins with verbal abuse and can escalate to physical violence.
She emphasized that once a partner resorts to physical abuse, it is a sign that it will likely continue.
Reflecting on her own experience, Kazim admitted that she endured violence for a year and a half before realizing she should have separated earlier.
She recounted a particularly harrowing incident when she was seven months pregnant and was assaulted and thrown out of the house in tattered clothes.
She expressed gratitude to the neighbors who helped her during that difficult period.
Kazim acknowledged that while she made mistakes in choosing her partner, she does not hold others responsible for the abuse she suffered.
Kazim also mentioned that she chose not to speak out publicly during the Noor Mukaddam case’s media frenzy because she did not want her past struggles to become a focal point.
She concluded by noting that her son Hamza, now 18, has been raised by her second husband, Faisal Naqvi, whom she married in 2013.
