Karachi: Jamaat-e-Islami has announced a new date for their protest sit-in in Karachi. The sit-in will be held on Saturday, August 3, at 5 PM at Governor House, starting from Jamia Masjid Khizra at 5 PM.
The new date was decided in a meeting of responsible officials chaired by Jamaat-e-Islami Karachi chief, Munem Zafar Khan.
The sit-in at Governor House is a continuation of the Rawalpindi sit-in and is being held to express solidarity with it.
During the meeting, it was also decided that on Friday, absentee funeral prayers for martyr Ismail Haniyeh will be held in mosques across the city.
Jamaat-e-Islami’s demands include the removal of unjust taxes in electricity bills, the abolition of the oppressive slab system, and the termination of anti-public agreements made with IPPs (Independent Power Producers).
They also demand the withdrawal of oppressive taxes imposed on the salaried class and traders in the IPP budget.
Taxes should be levied on landlords and the elite class.
The license of K-Electric should be revoked and a forensic audit conducted. Load shedding should be ended and affordable electricity provided.
