Tehran: A photo has been released of the sealed complex of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards where Ismail Haniyeh was staying and where he was targeted in a missile attack.
According to Iranian media, Ismail Haniyeh, the head of Hamas, was martyred in a missile attack late Tuesday night as he arrived at the guesthouse after attending the inauguration ceremony of the newly elected Iranian president.
This guesthouse, where Ismail Haniyeh and other international leaders were staying, was actually part of a sealed complex of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards. This complex is located in a high-security area.
The complex was originally built for the accommodation of former military personnel, and it was not anticipated that an enemy could breach this building and target Ismail Haniyeh.
A photo of this sealed complex has gone viral in Iranian media.
The image shows part of the building covered with cloth, suggesting that a missile had hit that section, which had been concealed.
Iranian Revolutionary Guards and other intelligence agencies have not yet determined who targeted Ismail Haniyeh and how they managed to do so in this sensitive building in Tehran.
Both Iran and Hamas have blamed Israel for the assassination attempt on Ismail Haniyeh, but Israel has neither confirmed nor denied involvement.
Al Jazeera’s defense editor had revealed that U.S. intelligence assistance might have been involved in Haniyeh’s killing.
However, the U.S. Secretary of State has denied any involvement in the attack.
Today, in the presence of thousands at Tehran University, Iran’s spiritual leader, Ayatollah Khamenei, performed Ismail Haniyehâs funeral prayer.
His body will be transported to Qatar tomorrow and buried in Doha.
