Initiative to train young inmates in Punjab jails

Lahore: Under the vision of jail reforms by the Punjab Chief Minister, the Punjab Home Department has started technical training for juvenile inmates in jails.

According to a spokesperson for the Punjab Home Department, the training has begun under the “Skilled Inmates” program. Inmates are being trained in the production and repair of LED bulbs, SMD ceiling lights, and irons.

Punjab jails currently have 15,000 LED bulbs, with over 2,000 bulbs being replaced each month due to faults. Trained inmates are gaining experience by repairing defective LED bulbs.

This initiative is expected to save millions of rupees monthly, help turn inmates into productive citizens, and enable young inmates to earn a respectable livelihood upon their release.

The program will also save approximately 3 million rupees annually on bulb purchases.

The training, supervised by experts, has commenced at the District Jail Lahore.
