A female badminton athlete from the 117-member Indian squad participating in the Paris Olympics, Jwala Gutta, has criticized the outfits made for the opening ceremony.
The Olympic Games not only allow athletes to represent their countries but also showcase their culture to the audience.
However, Indian badminton player Jwala Gutta has harshly criticized the outfits designed for the Paris Olympics.
In a tweet on the social networking site X (formerly Twitter), she wrote, “After much thought! Now I am compelled to write, the outfits designed for the Indian contingent participating in the Paris Games were completely below expectations, which is disappointing.”
She wrote, “Why didn’t the designer use their brain to realize that pre-draped sarees are in fashion these days? Not all girls know how to wear a saree.
Similarly, the saree blouses did not fit well, and the color and print were entirely contrary to Indian representation. It was an opportunity for the designer to highlight our culture through embroidery or hand painting.”
Who designed the Indian team’s uniform?
Renowned Indian designer Tarun Tahiliani designed the uniforms for Team India, using expensive cotton khadi.
