Nottingham: A recent experiment has revealed that horses possess the ability to develop strategies.
Ethologist Louise Evans and her team from Nottingham Trent University have demonstrated in their latest study that horses can plan ahead.
Researchers involved 20 horses in the study, where they were invited to touch targets resembling playing cards with the added incentive of food.
However, when a light appeared near the target, the horses were not given food. Despite this, the horses continued to search for food without waiting for the light.
The light was intended to signal a kind of ‘stop’ signal, but the horses kept searching for food even after the light was turned off, showing their ability to plan and strategize.
