Google set to introduce satellite messaging in Android 15

In 2022, Apple introduced the feature of sending emergency SOS messages via satellite in the iPhone 14 series, which has saved numerous lives so far.

Afterward, efforts were made for Android devices, but this facility is not yet available to users.

However, Google is now introducing a satellite messaging feature similar to the iPhone in Android smartphones.

According to a report by Android Authority, the satellite connectivity feature will be introduced in the Android 15 operating system.

This Android system will be officially introduced in the fourth quarter of this year, and references to a feature called Pixel Satellite SOS are found in the new beta version.

The beta version code suggests that the satellite messaging service will be available to users for free for the first two years.

It should be noted that through the satellite service, iPhone users send emergency messages from locations where mobile or Wi-Fi signals are not available.

Android users will also have this facility with the new feature.

According to the report, when a user contacts emergency services via satellite, their personal details such as name, email, phone number, location, and device details will be transferred to the emergency services.

To use this feature, Google Messages must be set as the default SMS app.Previously, various reports had mentioned that the satellite messaging feature for Android phones would be better than that of iPhones.

In iPhones, this feature can only be used to send emergency messages, but Android users will be able to message anyone, including emergency services.

However, satellite messages will take longer to reach, and sending pictures or videos will not be possible.

Google has not officially announced satellite messaging support in the Android operating system yet.
