First case of Monkeypox reported in Sweden

Stockholm: Sweden has reported its first case of the monkeypox outbreak, with the affected patient being kept in the intensive care unit.

Swedish authorities have confirmed the first case of the monkeypox epidemic, and an investigation is underway into the patient’s social contacts.

Earlier, on Thursday, the World Health Organization declared monkeypox a global public health emergency for the second time in two years, following an outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Sweden’s Minister of Health and Social Affairs, Jakob Forsmed, stated at a press conference that medical experts have confirmed the presence of a severe form of monkeypox in Sweden, known as Clade I.

The minister added that the situation is being assessed and all necessary precautions are being taken regarding the epidemic.
