First American-Pakistani climber to conquer 12th highest peak determined for new summit

Aamer Butt, the first American-Pakistani to summit Broad Peak, the 12th highest mountain in the world at 8,051 meters, is determined to tackle another peak.

After climbing Broad Peak, Aamer Butt spoke with Geo News in Lahore before his departure to the U.S.

He shared that he has been living in the U.S. for 32 years and has been climbing in North America for two decades.

However, he sought larger challenges and decided to come to Nepal with the goal of summiting Pakistan’s five highest peaks.

He successfully climbed Broad Peak with the help of Broad Peak Boy Shehrooz Kashif.

Aamer Butt, 58, acknowledged that people often say that such adventures are not suitable for older individuals due to decreased stamina.

However, climbing Broad Peak has boosted his confidence, and he now aims to conquer another peak higher than 8,000 meters.

He noted that while Broad Peak might not seem very difficult, summiting it presents significant challenges.

He added that he regularly participates in events and has competed in four out of six major marathons held in Europe and America.

Overall, he has represented Pakistan in 33 marathons and has also participated in Ironman competitions, which involve swimming, cycling, and running.
