Federal Law Minister Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar has voiced his support for the appointment of ad-hoc judges, asserting that such appointments are permissible under the Constitution.
In a recent interview on a private TV program, Minister Tarar clarified that ad-hoc judges are appointed by the Judicial Commission rather than solely by the Chief Justice, emphasizing the need for these appointments to ensure judicial efficiency.
Discussing potential constitutional amendments aimed at reforming the judicial system, Minister Tarar highlighted ongoing discussions regarding the extension of Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa’s tenure.
He clarified that while there were considerations due to concerns over pension costs, no decision had been made, and any such amendments would require parliamentary approval.
Touching on recent judicial decisions, Minister Tarar noted that a Supreme Court ruling had significant implications for a political party, specifically referencing a case involving reserved seats.
He mentioned ongoing reviews regarding the dismissal of certain MPAs without due process.Responding to queries about the invocation of Article 6 against PTI leaders, Minister Tarar suggested that such matters could be brought before Parliament for deliberation.
He also addressed recent legal maneuvers related to a no-confidence motion, indicating that while PTI had not scheduled a parliamentary session, efforts were made through the courts to convene one.
