Islamabad: The federal government has requested the Supreme Court to release the funds for the dams.
In the Supreme Court hearing regarding the Diamer-Bhasha and Mohmand Dam funds case, Additional Attorney General Aamer Rahman stated that a miscellaneous application had been filed requesting that the funds be given to the federal government and WAPDA.
The State Bank had opened the account under the Supreme Court’s supervision.
The Chief Justice of Pakistan inquired about the amount of money in the dam funds and how the case originated.
WAPDA’s lawyer, Saad Rasool, replied that approximately 20 billion rupees are available in the dam funds.
The Supreme Court had taken suo motu notice of the case in 2018 during ongoing WAPDA cases, and the Supreme Court’s Dam Funds Implementation Bench has held 17 hearings.
The Chief Justice asked if WAPDA had other projects and whether the Supreme Court oversees every WAPDA project.
The WAPDA lawyer explained that there were disputes between private parties regarding the dam construction.
The Supreme Court had decided to hear these disputes itself rather than sending them to the relevant courts.
The request is that disputes between private parties should be resolved in the appropriate judicial forums.
The court has requested the relevant record and adjourned the hearing for a brief period.
