Despite recognition by Election Commission, PTI members won’t be able to take oath in assemblies

Islamabad: Despite the Election Commission’s recognition, the nominated members of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) will not be able to take their oaths in the assemblies.

A legal draft concerning this matter will be presented in the National Assembly today. Observers are calling this the first constitutional bombshell.

Special security arrangements have been made at Parliament House, and government members have been instructed to ensure their attendance. Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq’s role has become crucial.

During the National Assembly session, the government will strongly condemn inappropriate statements and decrees regarding the Chief Justice of Pakistan.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is expected to issue a policy statement on this issue.

The eighth session of the National Assembly, starting today (Tuesday) afternoon at Parliament House, will gain extraordinary significance.

Despite the session being designated for private members’ day, the government will introduce legislative drafts that will make it impossible for PTI to secure membership for its members in the National Assembly and later in the provincial assemblies through reserved seats.

This move is in response to a controversial high court decision that PTI seeks to exploit to have its members sworn in.

The proposed legislation is being termed the first legal bombshell that will be dropped during this session, with more legal and constitutional bombshells expected to follow.

Highly reliable parliamentary sources informed through its special central reporting cell on Monday evening that special security arrangements have been made for the session, covering both inside the House and other parts of Parliament House.

Instructions have been issued to Captain Ashfaq Ashraf, the Sergeant at Arms, in this regard.

The leadership of the ruling coalition parties has directed their members to ensure their attendance at the session starting today, which is expected to continue for two weeks.

The session will begin at 5 PM, with separate parliamentary party meetings of the government and opposition members to finalize strategies for the session.

National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has arrived in Islamabad and called for a House Business Committee meeting before the session.

Heads of all parliamentary groups will attend this meeting to discuss the rules of procedure for the House’s proceedings.

In addition, Imran Khan’s admission of attacks on GHQ and cantonments and the decisive phase of the £190 million case against him are notable developments.

Preparations are underway to transfer Imran Khan to a military jail, and heated speeches from government and opposition members are expected during the session.
