Death toll rises to 38 in bridge collapse in China’s Shanxi Province

The death toll from the bridge collapse in Shanxi province, China, two weeks ago has risen to 38.

According to the news agency, 24 people who went missing in the Shanxi incident have yet to be found, while one more person has been rescued.

The bridge collapse has raised questions about the quality of roads and bridges being constructed in China, as a similar incident occurred in another province in May this year, resulting in 36 fatalities.

Due to heavy rains and flooding in Shanxi province two weeks ago, the initial collapse led to 11 deaths and approximately 25 vehicles falling into the river.

Many people in the vehicles went missing, and CCTV footage and extensive searches along the river’s flow for several kilometers were utilized in the search efforts.
