Chaman: The resumption of pedestrian movement at the Pak-Afghan border’s Friendship Gate under previous conditions has not yet begun.
Levis officials report that Pakistani traders and workers reached the Friendship Gate to enter Afghanistan, but Afghan border officials refused to grant them entry based on their ID cards.
According to border authorities, a large number of local Afghan citizens are also gathered at the Afghan side of the border for entry into Pakistan.
Both sides of the Friendship Gate have a large number of Pakistani and Afghan traders and workers, but the Afghan border police have halted pedestrian movement for traders and workers.
The district administration mentioned that the previous passport policy for pedestrian movement at the Friendship Gate was reinstated yesterday.
However, the Afghan border police stated that they were not informed about the agreement between Pakistani authorities and the protesters.
It is noteworthy that a sit-in against the passport travel policy at the Friendship Gate in Chaman had been ongoing for nine months but was ended yesterday after successful negotiations.
