São Paulo: The spread of wildfires in Brazil’s forests has put 30 nearby cities at risk, prompting authorities to issue an alert.
The state government of São Paulo has formed an emergency cabinet to deal with the forest fires, which has placed 30 cities in Brazil on high alert.
The blaze has claimed the lives of two people, and smoke has disrupted traffic on a dozen highways, while the capital, São Paulo, is engulfed in a grey haze.
Rising temperatures and low humidity are contributing to the further spread of the fires across the state.
According to a foreign news agency, local authorities reported that on Friday, two workers died while trying to extinguish a fire at an industrial plant in the city of Aruás.
The state government has warned that the forest fires could rapidly spread due to gusts of wind, potentially destroying a large portion of the natural vegetation.
Governor Tarcísio de Freitas stated on the social media platform Twitter that 30 cities are currently on high alert due to the fire, and efforts are being made to control the situation and ensure safety.
