Bangladesh: Army Chief to meet students for interim government formation

Dhaka: Bangladeshi student leaders have claimed that they will determine the framework for the interim government following the resignation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Wajed.

According to international news agencies, Army Chief General Waqar ul Zaman announced in a press conference after Sheikh Hasina’s resignation and subsequent departure to India that the country will now be governed by an interim government.

The Army Chief also mentioned that this interim government would include representatives from various political parties and hinted at a meeting with President Mohammad Shahabuddin.

Subsequently, a statement from the Bangladeshi military spokesperson indicated that the Army Chief would soon meet with teachers and student leaders to discuss the formation of the interim government.

Meanwhile, student leaders have decided to continue their protests on the streets, insisting that their proposals be considered in the formation of the interim government.
