A 49-year-old Australian, Rick Sherman, avoided drowning in the sea by promptly using his Apple Watch.
Rick Sherman from New South Wales was surfing at Tallow Beach in Byron Bay when he fell into the water. The unstable waves caused him to drift further from the shore.
Recalling that he had his Apple Watch, Rick immediately called emergency services. The call was answered, and he was asked whether he needed police, fire brigade, or an ambulance.
Rick said that he was surrounded by dangerous waves and strong winds, making it difficult to use the watch. He had to hold the watch up to his ear to hear and speak with the caller.
Rick stayed on the line for an hour, guiding the rescuers to his location. Soon after, he was rescued from the sea by a helicopter.
