Actress receives rape threats for speaking out on Kolkata case

West Bengal: Former Trinamool Congress member and actress Mimi Chakraborty has revealed that she has been receiving rape threats after sharing protest posts on social media about the Kolkata rape case.

According to Indian media, actress Mimi Chakraborty questioned on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), “Are we demanding justice for women?”

She stated that they are seeking justice in a society where predatory men have normalized threatening women with rape.

Chakraborty mentioned that after posting protest messages on social media regarding the horrific incident involving a female doctor in Kolkata, she received threats of rape and obscene messages.

In her post, she tagged the Kolkata Police Cyber Cell Department, asking what kind of upbringing and education permits such behavior.

Additionally, Chakraborty participated in a protest against the Kolkata rape case on August 14 and has continued to demand justice for the female doctor on social media.

It should be noted that on August 9, a 31-year-old doctor was found dead, covered in blood, at a medical college in Kolkata. Staff at RG Kar Medical College reported that the doctor had gone to rest briefly in the college seminar hall after working nearly 20 hours of a 36-hour shift.

The next day, the doctor’s semi-naked body was found in the seminar hall. According to the post-mortem report, the doctor was brutally sexually assaulted by multiple men and then strangled to death.

In response, Kolkata Police have arrested a police officer, holding him responsible for the incident. The officer was assigned to facilitate hospital admissions and medical aid for police personnel and their families.
