We will fight for 100 years, says Sudanese Military Chief

Port Sudan: The head of the Sudanese military has declared that they will not participate in peace negotiations and will continue fighting for 100 years.

General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, the de facto ruler and head of the Sudanese military, stated that his government will not join peace talks with rival paramilitary forces in Switzerland.

In a statement to reporters in Port Sudan, General al-Burhan said, “We will not go to Geneva; instead, we will fight for 100 years.”

The Sudanese armed forces have been fighting against the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) for over 16 months.

The U.S. initiated negotiations in Switzerland on August 14, aiming to reduce humanitarian suffering and achieve a lasting ceasefire.

The RSF sent its delegation to Geneva, but the Sudanese armed forces did not participate in the talks despite having telephone communications with the mediators.

The negotiations were jointly hosted by Saudi Arabia and Switzerland.

The brutal conflict between the Sudanese armed forces and RSF rebels has forced one in five people to leave their homes, with tens of thousands killed.

The civil war has left over 25 million people, more than half of Sudan’s population, facing severe food shortages.
