Karachi: The District and Sessions Judge East has reserved the decision on the bail application of Yasir Shami, an accused in the case involving the viral obscene videos of the late anchorperson Dr. Aamir Liaquat Hussain.
The hearing of Yasir Shami’s bail application took place before the District and Sessions Judge East in Karachi City Court.
Defense lawyer Sajid Mahboob Sheikh argued that Yasir Shami was not initially named as an accused in the case.
The complainant, Dua Aamir, did not mention Yasir Shami in her initial statement. Yasir Shami was not mentioned in the first charge sheet of the case.
He contended that Yasir Shami was unjustly implicated in the case and that PEMRA, which regulates media channels, had not taken any notice of the matter.
The complainant’s lawyer, Bushra Iqbal, argued that if the accused’s bail were granted, it would set a precedent where anyone could defame others without consequence.
The complainant had initially mentioned a gang, including Daniya and Salma, and Yasir Shami was allegedly part of this gang. She argued that no law permits anyone to upload obscene videos, and Yasir Shami, being the content head of his organization, was the central accused in the incident. Therefore, his bail should be denied.
The court reserved its decision on the bail application after hearing arguments from both sides.
