Gaza ceasefire: last chance; U.S. warns Israel

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken has arrived in the Middle East for a crucial visit, during which he met with President Isaac Herzog to discuss the ceasefire in Gaza.

According to Israeli media, President Herzog stated that Hamas is responsible for the failure to secure the release of hostages and reach a ceasefire agreement.

Herzog thanked the U.S., Egypt, and Qatar, expressing hope that the ceasefire talks mediated by these parties could progress.

He emphasized that the most significant humanitarian goal is the return of Israeli hostages to their homes and families.

In the meeting, Blinken conveyed to President Herzog that the ongoing ceasefire negotiations in Qatar represent a decisive moment and possibly the best and last opportunity for a ceasefire, the return of hostages, and the establishment of lasting peace and security in the region.

Blinken urged against placing the blame for the failure of the Gaza ceasefire talks solely on Hamas, stating that it is time for action and to ensure that no steps are taken that could derail the negotiations.

He added that efforts are being made to prevent any provocations or actions that could jeopardize the ongoing agreements.
