Army has always stood with people and will continue to do so: Bangladeshi Army Chief

Bangladeshi Army Chief General Waqar Uz Zaman stated that the army has always stood with the people and will continue to do so.

According to the Directorate of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) of Bangladesh, the army chief addressed officers yesterday.

During his address amid ongoing violent public protests in Bangladesh, he instructed the army to ensure the protection of the people’s lives, property, and key government installations at all costs.

The Bangladeshi army chief reiterated that the army has always stood with the people and will continue to do so in the interest of the public and the needs of the state.

It is noteworthy that students in Bangladesh have once again taken to the streets over unmet demands, and this time they have initiated a civil disobedience movement, demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Thousands of students are protesting on the streets against the government.

According to the foreign news agency Reuters, at least 23 people have been killed and dozens injured during clashes between police, Awami League workers, and protesters in today’s demonstrations.

Bangladeshi media reported that the government has issued curfew orders starting from 6 PM and has also suspended internet services in light of the protests.

Regarding this issue, Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina stated that those protesting on the streets are not students but terrorists who aim to destabilize the country.

Sheikh Hasina urged her compatriots to crush these terrorists firmly.
